A Note To Our Community

Girls Twiddling Knobs will close at the end of 2025. After five years of courses, conversations and creative empowerment for thousands of women and gender diverse musicians, the project is entering its final chapter.

This page shares why the project is closing, what this means for our community and how you can make the most of the final year of Girls Twiddling Knobs.

Why Girls Twiddling Knobs Is Closing

1. Long term sustainability

Delivering GTK at its current depth and quality requires significant operational capacity. Continuing would have required scaling, restructuring or external investment that did not align with the ethos of the project. Closing allows GTK to conclude responsibly, with clarity and dignity.

2. Evolving internal commitments

The creative and professional work of the project’s leadership has expanded, with new commissions, research projects and touring work that require focused attention. Ending GTK supports this shift while ensuring the project concludes with intention.

3. A stronger landscape for women in music tech

The sector has grown considerably since 2020. With more organisations championing women and gender diverse creators, GTK can close with confidence that its impact has helped shape a more supportive and diverse environment.

What Happens Next

Girls Twiddling Knobs will continue to operate throughout 2025. This has included:

• A final live cohort of Home Recording Academy (Feb 2025) and The Art of Field Recording (July 2025)
• The last cycle of our Rise and Release membership
• An in person celebration in November 2025

• The final episodes of the podcast (Nov-Dec 2025)

• A site-wide 50% OFF sale across our online programmes (Jan 2026)

After December 2025, the project will formally close, while some resources remain available.

Looking Ahead

Girls Twiddling Knobs has always been more than a podcast and courses. It has been a community built on shared courage, creativity and care. As we move into this final phase, our focus is on celebration, legacy and supporting the transition to whatever comes next for our students and our wider community.

Thank you for being part of this remarkable journey.

There are so many wonderful women in music initiatives we hope you will join and support, moving forward.
